Simuka - Phakama Green enterPRIZE Innovation Challenge

Youth trained under the ABC run Entrepreneurship Training currently underway in Gokwe South have taken it upon themselves to compete with the rest of the nation in addressing climate change issues by applying for the Green enterPRIZE Innovation Challenge.  So far 9 youth have handed in their off-line applications and business plans for consideration, whilst others have submitted on-line submissions - with businesses ranging from Agrobusiness to Recycling and Waste Management!  We as ABC- (WHH, and Empretec Zimbabwe) wish them all the best in their undertakings.

In short, the Challenge is an initiative of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in collaboration with the Government of Zimbabwe, Employer's Confederation of Zimbabwe, and Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions, Empretec Zimbabwe and other NGOs.  The Green Enterprise Challenge seeks to assist formal and informal enterprises in Zimbabwe to tap into the potential of a green economy in Zimbabwe by:
- addressing high levels of youth unemployment;
- increasing the numbers of formal and growth-oriented enterprises, and;
- improving the sustainability of production processes in SME's.

The Challenge is open to young women and men aged 18 years and above who run a small or medium-sized business in Zimbabwe, with potential for growth in a green economy.  Applications from women, youth and business leaders and entrepreneurs living with disabilities are strongly encouraged.

The emphasis is on companies whose business plans that are economically viable and driven by environmentally and socially inclusive intentions.  Business plans will be assessed and awarded under the following categories:

SECTOR AWARDS
- Best Green Business (manufacturing or service)
- Best Agribusiness
- Best Renewable Energy Business
- Best Waste management and Recycling Business

ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARDS
- Best Young Entrepreneur
- Best Growth Oriented Entrepreneur (Gazelle)
- Best Woman Entrepreneur
- Most Innovative Business Entrepreneur
- Best Entrepreneur living with disability

Awards include technical and financial support to eco-innovation, as well as access to Business Development Services (BDS) to enable entrepreneurs to gain the skills and knowledge to run their businesses more effectively.  Each category will have one winner and two runners-up, MAKING A TOTAL of 27 PRIZES!!  Cash prizes range from $2,500 to $5,000 along with business development services, and finally 12 months of business development support.
